History of the Society

In 1948, Fond du Lac County residents, such as Gerald Holzman, seemed to be more “history minded.” It was Wisconsin’s 100th birthday and the County did not have a Historical Society.

Together with William Titus of Fond du Lac, Charles Hill of Rosendale, and Samuel Pedrick of Ripon, Holzman called the first meeting on November 17, 1948 with approval and encouragement by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin.

About fifteen people from the county attended this meeting and formed the core around which the Society’s membership was built. They decided to organize what is now known as the Fond du Lac County Historical Society, to preserve and make available the history of their county.
