Lamartine Peat Marsh
Just west of Woodhull, in sections 8 and 17, are 496 acres of Peat marsh. In 1865 over $100,000 was spent in an endeavor to establish a plant to harvest and dry peat for fuel. 60 to 70 people were employed, but the business did not last long. A second attempt was made by Dr. Beebe, who built a narrow gauge railroad through the swamp.
